Back to Mar., Year 2018, I took my first step into TM, literally, first step.
Actually the idea of visiting this club was initiated by Mika because her company maintains a company club. At that time, I didn't have a figure about TMs, I thought it was a kind of English lecture or sth.
I still remember that day, I walked into the cafe and saw David Li, who was one of our club's previous members, was buying a coffee. He realized that I was looking for sth., so he asked, "Are you finding a TM's club? It's on the second floor. I'm also attending it." "Oh, thank you." How can he know it? I was wondering.
I found the meeting room on the second floor and stepped in. Do you know what I saw? A bi-g smile from SAA, Gilbert, who was one of our previous VPPR as well. I was impressed and felt be warmly welcomed. If you have ever heard of a thing called the Moments of Truth, let me tell you, that is it.
After I heard the president opening presented by founding president Michelle, took part in the new guest introduction, and participated in the table topic which name is A Drop of Water I still remember. Then, I determined that I would definitely join in.
Then, I got my first and only mentor Amy. She was dedicated, kind and warm. She encouraged me to visit clubs to see the world of TMs.
Following her advice, I visited about 10 clubs, announced our club at the end of the meeting, and made a lot of friends. I was invited to new-member-orientation and be the sharing master of PWs and once took a role in another TMs event.
During the club visiting and all of the events, I've heard the kind of speech that was seemingly inspiring, but no specific thoughts in it. I saw the member was newly joined but can already deliver a great great speech. I met a person who continued persuading me to buy weight-losing product. I started to know about the both cliche and creative sides of TMs, and I...ate a lot of birthday cakes...
Half a year later, I got my first mentee Coco - a lovely senior high school student. And then Rain - our former VPE, I still regret that I haven't mentored her well. And months ago, Stella - currently leave because of her work. They are all hardworking and eager to learn. By having mentees, it urges me to learn more so that I can share more.
I became an officer and started to work with a group of people. Isabella, Spring, Aaron, Yuli, Lulu, and now the current officer team members.
I get to know Claire and was surprised that we were taught by the same Chinese teacher in junior high school.
I encountered my classmates Yvette and David whom we merely seen each other after our graduation.
In toastmasters, you will witness a fast-forward type of workplace. New faces come, old faces go. I'm happy that Lucy's still here because we officially joined WJC star on the same day. Everybody's priority is varied in different stage of life. Michelle used to say, I hope that after we retired, we can still attend the TM's meeting together. No matter what, i believe that one day, when slow down our forwarding paces, looking back, toastmasters is still there, and we are always here.
In 2018, I told my mentor that joining TM is one of the most sensible decision I've made this year.
My mentor told me that it would be one of the most sensible decision I've made in my whole life.
Toastmasters trained me a lot, honestly, in a very short time, and yes just like what it labelled itself - communication and leadership skill, but I want to say all these things cannot happen without all the ppl here, that is what toastmasters bring to me.
