In our everyday lives, people often have the same doubt, which is why the sound we received from ourselves diff from others' listen to us. In this short essay, I will explore the probable reason behind it while giving an introductory explanation of the anatomy of the human listening part.
Firstly, let us take an overview of how a human receives the particular sound waves, in other words, encoding and decoding while we are interacting with the outside world.
Normal sound waves are actually tiny vibrations in the air. The vibrations travel through the air to our eardrums. The eardrums, in turn, vibrate, decoding these sound waves into different types of vibrations that are received by the Cochlea(内耳、耳蜗), also known as the inner ear. The Cochlea is connected to our auditory nerve, which transmits the sounds to our brain.
Secondly, when a person is talking, the voice which has been generated by his own vocal cords will be passed to the cochlea via the skull instead of working with the normal mechanism, in which the vibration first goes into the ear canal until reach the eardrum, then the information is decoded, pass on to the cochlea, until it reaches the auditory nerve. Therefore, in bone conduction listening, the sound will convert into vibrations that can be received directly by the Cochlea so the eardrum is never involved. The “sound” reach the ears as vibrations through the bones (or skull) and skin.
Finally, a person's own voice will sound totally different for both himself and others, in which the different mechanisms of receiving certain vibrations of the sound. in other words, the auditory nerve, the central functioning part of your listening, how does it work.
In conclusion, since the sound vibrations go into our head which we receive our own voice have multiple paths to reach the auditory nerve, it can be inferred that there are possible different feelings or attitudes for both we observe ourselves and others' look at us.
