Love Is Blind

Max Shulman’s essay Love is a Fallacy tells a story that the narrator finds a girl meet all of his requirements except intelligence. However, after the narrator has taught the girl logical analysis, she chose another boy, a poor and stupid guy, which is illogical.I truly believe that love is blind. Not only the story of Max Shulman’s essay proves it, but also the following three evidences give the support. First, Geek and Rome mythology tell us the origin of love is blind. Cupid, the god of desire, erotic love, attraction and affection, is even controlled by love because he was shot by his arrow, accidentally. People shot by Cupid’s arrow are filled by uncontrolled desire. They fall in love with others, and sometimes they don’t even know anything of each other. I think many people confused that why they fall in love with others so suddenly. They can’t find the reasons, so they create the mythology to explain the phenomenon. And it is useful and many people truly believe it. Why the boy fall in love with the girl for the first sight? Why the two crash into each other, although they quarrel a lot before? Even they themselves can’t explain why. “Well, we are shot by Cupid’s arrow.” This can be the perfect answer for them to explain their queer behaviors. Besides, people can’t make rational decisions in love. I strongly believe that human beings are the highest level of animals. We have the same desire as other animals’. We want food when we are hungry. We long for water when we are thirsty. But one thing is different. We desire for love. Human beings need attention and love. When people are suffering from loneliness or being ignored, they are easily moved by others. For example, a warm-hearted colleague say something good to a woman in order to encourage her do better in work but the woman falls in love with the man, regarding him as the soul mate. However, the man doesn’t have the same feeling as she has. Does the woman really love the man? What if it is her boss who comforts her? Will she fall in love with her boss? Maybe she will. The point is not that who is the person, is that who come and give her attention and love. Human beings are emotional, so it is difficult to do the rational decisions, especially when they are longing for love.Finally, love is different from marriage so people’s attitude towards love is more casual than marriage. When people are young, they begin to show their love to others. And the age of people begin their first romantic relationship comes to younger. They are easy to fall in love and also casually break up. Many people hold the belief that marriage means lots of responsibilities, while love is freer and more flexible. With this belief, people do not consider too much such as the personality and the family background to build up a romantic relationship. They pay attention to the current situation and short term feeling. It may cause their endless quarrels and that one of the reasons that many tragedies exist. From ancient to modern times, people still can’t make an explicit definition of love. They create the mythology to explain their blind love. And people’s instinct for love and their attitude to love in modern times perfectly prove that love is blind.
