    Writing about your future

1、Vocabulary:Vocabulary for talking about your future

Joan: You're looking pleased with yourself.
Tode: I am! Angla and I just met with a financial planner. We're planing for our retirement.
Joan: And that put you in a good mood?
Tode: Yes, it did, surprisingly. We were worried we wouldn't have enough for a comfortable retirement.
Tode: But it was better than we expected. With my retirement plan here and Angela's plan at her job, we should be okay.
Joan: So things are looking up.
Tode: Yes, they are. We have some investments that have done quite well recently. Generally, we're feeling much more optimistic(/ˌɑːptɪˈmɪstɪk/,expecting good things to happen or sth to be successful; showing this feeling
    ).
Joan: So what are your plans for your retirement?
Tode: We'd both like to retire when we're 62.
    Joan: Why 62?
Tode: Oh, I don't know. Sixty-wao's a pretty normal age to retire at, isn't it? We'd like to buy a small house somewhere in the countryside.
Joan: As a permanent residence ore a holiday home?
Tode: Not sure yet. Oh! And hopefully we'll have enough money to travel. There are so many places we've never been to. Australia··· Africa ···
    Joan: Sounds wonderful.
Tode: The one other thing we have to consider is the kids' college fund.
    Joan: Could be expensive.
Tode: Yes. But apart from that, I'm feeling a lot better about the future.
Joan: I'm glad to hear it.
Tode: When do you think you'll retire, Joan?
Joan: Maybe when I'm about 95.

    financial planner(财务规划师)
investment (投资)/ɪnˈvestmənt/ : the act of investing money in sth.

I'd like to build our investments.

My primary residence will be in Vancouver, but I'll buy a vacation home on Vancouver Island.
The city is just too busy and dirty. I'd like to retire in the country .

    2、Grammar:Future perfect(将来完成时)

Before Oscar gets to work, he'll have made new friends.(奥斯卡开始工作之前,他已经结识了新朋友)

I will have set up a college fund before my children turn 16.

When I'm 60, I will have retired from my job and bought that beach house.

A: What will you have achieved by 2020?
B: We'll have set up a college fund, but we won't have made any significant investments.(我们会设立一个大学基金,但我们不会进行任何重大投资。)
significant/sɪɡˈnɪfɪkənt/:large or important enough to have an effect or to be noticed.

By that time, we will have retired in the country.
I'll have become CFO by 2025.
Carl won't have built his investments before he retires.
They will have traveled around the world by then.
We'll have paid off our credit cards by the time we buy a vacation home.

    3、Expressions:Expressing optimism(表达乐观)

    better than we expected(好过我们的预期)
    We should be okay(我们应该没事的)
    Things are looking up(一切都在好转)
    We're feeling much more optimistic.(我们感到更加乐观了)
    Hopefully, we'll have enough money.(但愿我们会有足够的钱)
    feeling a lot better about(感觉好多了)

Everything should be okay with my credit card payments.
Yes, financially, I'll be fine. I'm feeling very optimistic .
    (financial:/faɪˈnænʃl/,connected with money and finance.)

4、Reading:What my future will be like(我的将来会是怎样)

I'm feeling optimistic about my future. We've just met with a financial planner.

We're setting up a college fund for our children, and I'm trying to build my

investments. By the time I turn 35, I'll have started my own energy business.

Before my kids graduate from college, I'll have doubled my profits. Hopefully,

my investments will have performed even better than the expected 6% per

year. Then my wife and I can travel around the world, even though the price

of flights will have increased by 200 percent. By 2050, we'll have retired and

bought a vacation home on Yellow Sands Island. Everything should be okay

financially, so my primary concern is for our health and the health of our

    environment.
