Since 2016, the “Foreign Language Education Cup” College Students’ Intercultural Competence Competition has been held annually for 7 consecutive years in China. As a national-level contest sponsored by a prestigious Shanghai-based foreign language education press, it attracts the participation of candidates from almost all major colleges and universities in China. As a teacher of an Intercultural Communication course, the author of this paper organizes and coaches her students’ participation in this contest almost every year. This research first introduces this newly emerging, however highly influential, contest in China, and analyses the positive roles it plays in improving students’ overall competence, including intercultural capacity, English proficiency, critical thinking, telling Chinese stories, teamwork, and so on.
