Today, let’s see what do Chinese do in Dragon Boat Festival. It is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month according to the Chinese calendar. As you may know that Dragon Boat Festival is mainly to memorize the death of great poet Quyuan, who is said to committed suicide by drowning himself in a river.
First, people attend Dragon Boat races to express their attempts to rescue Quyuan. But today, the Dragon Boat races are more likely to symbolize how unit people are through the competition.
Besides, people eat Zongzi on this day. Zongzi is a kind of food which people mix sticky rice and other food material. In northern China, people usually make sweet flavor Zongzi by add beans or sugar while in southern China, people prefer salt flavor Zongzi by add meat, salted egg and so on.
And most important, people make herbs packages that allowed to be hanged in windows or in handbags. Also, some people boil the herbs like artemisia to show themselves. The herbs are believed to keep a healthy body and prevent bad luck.
