Call Me Number One: With Tourett

If one day, your body will involuntarily twitch, your mouth will involuntarily make strange noises, and your arrival is the laughing stock of the whole audience, will you still maintain a healthy mind?

The movie "Call Me Number One" features one such person - a sufferer of Tourette's, or pediatric Tourette's. In the movie, he uses his practical actions to prove that kids with Tourette's can do even better than normal kids.

In the movie, the main character has been plagued by Tourette's since he was six years old: his mouth makes strange noises and his body twitches involuntarily, and it is obvious that such a child is bound to be teased by children of his age.

Even the teacher can't tolerate the child's uncontrollable noises in the classroom. After one of his "fits", his teacher foolishly and self-righteously assumes that this is his "persistent and unrepentant" mischief, and demands that he apologize to his classmates for laughing at him while he is still sick.

Under pressure, the hero apologizes. But after apologizing, the hero falls ill due to his illness. After this fiasco, the hero was forced to drop out of school.

If the main character did not have the help of a nobleman, the movie would have ended there. However, God favors the main character.

This person is his mother. Though she doesn't know why her child keeps making strange noises, she believes that her child "can't control this behavior". After the equally stupid principal makes the stupid decision to force the main character out of school, his mother decides to help her child find the answer to his child's own anomalies.

Eventually, they find it. And it's this search that makes the main character determined to live his own life and live to be number one!

Although the protagonist's encounters have a cinematic technique and narrative, many people with Tourette's Syndrome will, to a greater or lesser extent, encounter discrimination and misunderstanding from society. Some say they are bad habits, some say they are impolite, and some even say they are deviants. At this time, how do these "God's Chosen Children" go from the darkness to the light?

I think it's important to have a good friend, but the child's own mindset may be even more important. If your child also suffers from Tourette's syndrome, when you are lost, you may want to watch this movie and tell yourself: even if I have Tourette's syndrome, I can still be my own number one!

In the movie, it is due to the relentless efforts of the main character's mother time and time again that she is able to find the culprit - Tourette's syndrome - that is plaguing his son and making him the butt of jokes and discrimination. Although she found the culprit, the main character's mother was at her wits' end, so she took the main character to a Tourette's support group.

But when they get to the support group, the experience is not good - the people in the support group only let the children hide in the "safe haven".

While the protagonist's mother apologized to the protagonist for forgetting to bring him to the support group, the protagonist said that he would never be like him (referring to one of the patients in the support group - Editor's note). And it is with this kind of mindset that the main character is able to reap happiness in the end.

Therefore, the saying that a good mindset is the best prescription for healing oneself is really not nonsense.
