Definition: trying to help but often making things worse
Examples:
a well-intentioned action that led to tragedy
well-intentioned people/acts/remarks
2. do our bidding
Definition: to do what is requested.
Examples: The servant grumbled but did his employer's bidding.
My sentence: We would like to do your bidding.
3. consume=dug into
Definition: eat or drink something吃; 喝;
⇒consumer, consumption:
Example: Alcohol may not be consumed on the premises.场内禁止饮酒。
4. doom-and-gloom
Definition: the feeling that a situation is bad and is not likely to improve.
Example: Come on, it's not all doom and gloom, if we make a real effort we could still win.
My sentence: It's not all doom-and-gloom. Everything will be better.
5. feel me out
Definition: to find out what someone's opinions or feelings are, without asking them directly探听…的意见:
Example: I thought I'd feel out some of my colleagues before the meeting.我想在开会之前探听一下一些同事的意见
My sentence : He tried to feel her out to see if she has affection for him.
6. hold in the highest regard=greatly respected
Definition : to think well of someone or something.
Examples : All of us hold the vice president in high regard.
We hold these policies in high regard.
My sentence: We hold the President Xi in high regard.
