Why did Harrison sell his house so quickly?

My old friend, Harrison, had lived in the Mediterranean for many years before he returned to England. He had often dreamed of retiring in England and has planned to settle down in the country. He had no sooner returned than he bought a house and went to live there. Almost immediately he began to complain about the weather, for even though it was summer, it rained continually and it was often bitterly cold. After so many years of sunshine, Harrison got a shock. He acted as if he had never lived in England before. In the end, it was more than he could bear. He had hardly had time to settle down when he sold the house and left the country. The dream he had had for so many years ended there. Harrison had thought of everything except the weather.

知识笔记：

1./a:/,kk(美音)中有两点：，张大嘴巴；舌身后缩，舌尖远离下齿；长元音，发音稍长（压住嗓子眼儿的感觉）

2./r/：舌尖卷起，靠近上齿龈后部，不贴住；舌两侧贴住上齿龈两侧；嘴唇张开略收圆；声带振动发音

3./ar/：/a/+/r/，先发前面的/a/，压住嗓子眼儿，然后舌头向上卷。嘴唇收圆，发r

4./i:/:舌前部向硬腭尽量抬起；舌的两侧贴住上牙两侧；舌头肌肉保持紧张；嘴唇向两边伸开，成扁平形，似微笑

5./i/：舌前部向硬腭尽量抬起，但是比/i:/低；舌头两侧贴住上牙两侧；舌头肌肉松弛；嘴唇向两边伸开，成扁平；（略收小腹，短促有力）

6.He had hardly had time to settle down when he sold the house and left the country. hardly...when... :还没来得及......就.......

7.He had no sooner returned than he bought a house and went to live there. no sooner..than...:一.....就.....(主句一般为现在完成时，从句为一般过去时)，类似于as soon as.

练习感悟：

昨天的笔记因为网络原因没有上传成功，而且还没了保存。昨天开始了新一轮的音标练习，昨天是/θ//ð//f//v/，之前发前两个音是，总感觉很别扭，后来重新练习发现，是因为舌尖抵住上下齿之间就可以，但是之前的发音是会咬住舌尖的感觉，所以总是觉得别扭。今天复习了四个音标，i：和i发音的区别关键点是舌头，一个紧张，一个松弛，之前的学习的时候关于这个关键点完全没有印象，不知道自己是怎么学的。。。。
