Today's session drills down to syllables, which are the building blocks of word. When the each word is decomposed into syllables, it becomes much easier to understand why the linking two words can be linked in connected speech. I was blown away by the way how one sentence was pronounced as one word consisting multiple syllables. Transforming a sentence into an array of syllables is instrumental in locating the problematic syllables that repay close attention and deserve deliberate practice.

Today was my first time practicing during the live streaming, which was my great honor. More importantly, Eric pointed out a consonant that I mispronounced without self-awareness. I extremely appreciated such an opportunity of realizing the mistake. The more mistakes are rectified, the smaller the blind zone becomes. However, spotting pronunciation mistakes on our own is problematic because our ears are not able to catch those mistakes in the blind zone. Only when we recognize the correct one are we capable of righting the wrongs. Before getting down to practice, we'd better implant the correct (widely accepted) pronunciations into our ears and minds. This is exactly the process of internalization, which usually takes time and effort to bring about a rewarding experience.

Last but not least, contextualize a standalone sentence to make it alive. A sentence, rendered with different rhythms and melodies, can tell a variety of stories. For instance, it could be contextualized as either a statement or a question. Given a sentence, we can come up with a story to further reinforce the learning. It shouldn't be a hard job with an enthusiastic mindset.

Once again, slow down and begin with the fundamental building block: syllable. A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
