Good morning friends!
Today is a special day for the NBA, the Draft Day! For the none basketball fans, they might wonder what the heck this is.
Over the years, the U.S. professional sports have developed some very good systems that ensure talented athletes get a chance to develop into superstars starting from their middle school years. They went through high schools, colleges, and then for the very talented few, professional sports such as football, basketball, major league baseball, and hockey.
The draft days are the time for the professional sports teams officially selecting new recruits. For the NBA, there will be two rounds of 30 each for a total of 60 players to be drafted. Think about thousands of colleges in the U.S. plus a few foreign players, only 60 will be selected by the NBA teams to have a chance to play in the NBA. What an amazing chance to get this dream job! And all these guys will become instant millionaires overnight.
I have always been a Miami Heat fan. I also like watching football games. When I was a graduate student, I decided to watch only one sport to save time for my study and work. So I quit watching basketball since there were more than 80 games for a team per season. And there were only 16 games per year for a football team. It was until after I finished my degrees I have started watching basketball again. During the years, the Heat had won three NBA championships. I had good times and the bad when the Heat went up and down. But being a sports fan made life more exciting.
This year in the first round of the draft, the Miami Heat had selected Tylor Herro, an excellent scorer who graduated from the U. of Kentucky. I'm looking forward to seeing him play on the team the next season!
Have a great day! Cheers!
