Litecoin Foundation to Sponsor UFC Title Fight in Bid to Increase Crypto Adoption
The Litecoin Foundation will sponsor an event of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) mixed martial arts organization, according to an announcement published Dec. 26. In the statement, the foundation said that it has become the “Official Cryptocurrency Partner” of the UFC light heavyweight title fight between Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson. The Litecoin Foundation stated that the sponsorship is part of its effort to expand the adoption of digital currencies.

A governmental committee in India has reportedly suggested that cryptocurrencies be legalized in the country, Indian media reported Dec.26. According to the article, an senior official who reportedly attended the panel’s meetings on cryptocurrencies stated:“There is a general consensus that cryptocurrency cannot be dismissed as completely illegal. It needs to be legalized with strong riders.” Previous Indian government panel meetings had reportedly suggested a complete ban on cryptocurrencies in the country earlier in December.

South Korea: Authorities Arrest Nine For Allegedly Selling Drugs For Crypto
Authorities in South Korea have reportedly arrested nine individuals for allegedly selling controlled substances online using digital currencies. On December 23, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office released an official statement in which it noted that the alleged criminals had created a website in order to sell drugs via the dark web. According to the Korea Herald, the nine suspects believed to be involved in selling drugs using cryptocurrencies are in their 20s and 30s.

United Arab Emirates (UAE) is set to become the global leader in the infant cryptocurrency industry as its ICO regulations look to be finalized by mid-2019,reports The National, December 24, 2018. UAE's financial watchdog, the Securities and Commodities Authority (SCA) approved initial coin offerings (ICOs) as a legal means of raising funds on October 9, 2018. The SCA will work with the AbuDhabi Securities Exchange and Dubai Financial Market towards the development of trading platforms for ICOs in 2019. The government recently launched two national platforms targeted at rejuvenating the UAE’s artificial intelligence (AI) and blockchain technology ecosystems.
