2023年5月31日，读完The Drugs Don't Work: A Global Threat, by Sally C. Davis, ISBN 9780241969199。本书作者是英格兰的总医务官（chief medical officer），她在本书的开头想象了一番场景：2043年，由于滥用抗生素类药物，人类社会到了崩溃的边缘；那种景象像极了近几年的新冠肆虐的岁月。然后，她回顾了抗生素类药物的发明史，指出了当前由于人们对于此类药物的滥用，已导致很多病菌出现抗药性。如果持续放任不管，将来极有可能出现无药可用的境地。作者随后提出人类应该共同努力，采取措施，防止此类事情发生。
