There is a discussion about whether it is better for children to start to learn a foreign language at primary school. Some experts agree with that while others argue that there may be some disadvantages for children to learn a foreign language at a very young age. In my opinion, the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.
Objectively speaking, compare with children who are a bit older, young children are much more curious about everything and always have better ability to learn something new. So it is quite effective to give them the chance to learn a foreign language as early as possible. Additionally, learning a foreign language needs a lasting atmosphere which should be created around the children when they are at an early age.
As everyone knows, the education at secondary school is more test-orientated than primary school, this may leed to a decrease in the motivation of children and even bring negative mentality for them to learn that language. For instance, when I was in the secondary school, I found there were really some people who hated the rigid and stiff schooling-method very much, as the knowledge were fed stogily and that made students lose enthusiasm to learn, let alone mastering a foreign language.
Although the advantages of learning a foreign language from primary school is obvious, there are also some disadvantages what we should admit. The children at primary school lack the cognition of language and they cannot master their mother tougue very well, so the linguistic confusion take place and that may disrupt children's mind to some extent.
Admittedly, disadvantages are objective existense, the advangtages outweighing the disadvantages is undoubted. In conclusion, learning a foreign language from primary school makes sense and bring more benefit to children.
