“Boxer！”cried Clover in a terrible voice. “Boxer！Get out！Get out quickly！They are taking you to your death！”

All the animals took up the cry of “Get out，Boxer，get out！” But the van was already gathering speed and drawing away from them. It was uncertain whether Boxer had understood what Clover had said. But a moment later his face disappeared from the window and there was the sound of a tremendous【adj. 极大的，巨大的；惊人的；极好的】 drumming【n. 击鼓，鼓声；击鼓似的咚咚声】 of hoofs inside the van. He was trying to kick his way out. The time has been when a few kicks from Boxer's hoofs would have smashed【vt. 粉碎；使破产；溃裂；使猛撞；撞击；搞垮（政治集团或体制）】 the van to matchwood【n. 碎片；做火柴杆的木料】. But alas【int. 唉（表悲伤、遗憾、恐惧、关切等等）】！His strength had left him；and in a few moments the sound of drumming hoofs grew fainter and died away. In desperation the animals began appealing to the two horses which drew the van to stop. “Comrades，comrades！”they shouted. “Don't take your own brother to his death！” But the stupid brutes，too ignorant to realise what was happening，merely set back their ears and quickened their pace. Boxer's face did not reappear at the window. Too late，someone thought of racing ahead and shutting the five-barred gate；but in another moment the van was through it and rapidly disappearing down the road. Boxer was never seen again.
所有的动物一齐跟着喊起来，“出来，鲍克瑟，出来!”但货车已经加快了速度，渐渐远离了他们。鲍克瑟是否听懂了克拉弗说的话还很难说。但片刻之后，他的脸从窗口消失了，车厢里传来一阵巨大的马蹄声。他想踢出去。曾经有一次，鲍克瑟只要踢几脚，就会把货车踢得粉碎。但是唉!他已经没有力气了;不一会儿，马蹄声就越来越弱，渐渐地消失了。在绝望中，动物们开始恳求拉车的两匹马停下来。“同志们,同志们!”他们喊道。“别带你的亲弟弟去送死!”可是那些愚蠢的畜生，太无知了，不知道发生了什么事，只是竖起耳朵，加快了脚步。鲍克瑟的脸没有再出现在窗口。有人想跑到前面去关上那扇五栅门，但已经来不及了。鲍克瑟再也没有出现过。
