端午节英语知识拓展

The Dragon Boat Festival falls on the 5th day of the 5th lunar month.

端午节在农历五月初五。

表示某个节日是在哪一天，用fall on，落在某一天。

fall on真的既地道又官方，写在试卷上绝对很高级的。

✨端午节的几个重要传统习俗了。

首先，粽子，rice-dumpling/zongzi.

粽子在端午节的地位应该是最重要的了。粽子的英文是:rice-dumpling，这是比较书面的表达，更常用的表达是zongzi，就是粽子的拼音直译。因为是中国特有的食物，所以直译过来也没问题，类似还有很多是中文拼音直译过来的，如饺子的“jiaozi”。还有不是完全拼音，近似的直译豆腐的“tofu”，功夫的“kung fu”。

因为老外对粽子没有概念，所以名字说成什么样，他们都是一脸懵逼，那我们干脆就说Zongzi好啦。

重要的依然是对粽子的解释：

Zongzi are pyramid-shaped dumplings made of glutinous rice, stuffed with different fillings and wrapped in bamboo leaves.

粽子是金字塔形状的糯米做的饺子，有不同的馅儿，包在竹叶里面。

Pyramid: 金字塔Pyramid-shaped：做成金字塔形状的（pyramid可以换成其他名词，apple-shaped,苹果形状的）Glutinous rice: 字面义为黏黏的米，即糯米 Stuffed: 此处可以理解为动词stuff的被动态stuff作名词为东西，作动词为装满、塞满Stuffed，被动，即被塞满了...Filling: 名词，来自动词fill，filling为名词，填的东西，即馅儿Wrapped: 来自动词wrap，包裹

1）have bamboo leaves watered.

粽叶先浸水。

2）Fill the boat shape with a few tablespoons of the soaked sticky rice. Top with a sprinkling of mung beans.

在船型粽叶中填入几勺浸湿的糯米，再加少许绿豆。

3）Add some smoked meat and shrimps.

再加入腌制过的肉和虾。

4）Packed it with line with three, four, or five angles.

用线把粽子裹起来，可以做成三角、四角或五角。

5）Boiled them, first with big fire, then turn to small fire till rip.

然后再进行蒸煮，先用大火，再转成小火直到粽子壳开裂。

✨赛龙舟：Dragon boat racing.

Dragon boat racing is a traditional pastime.

赛龙舟是一项传统娱乐活动。

pastime：名词，消遣，娱乐业余时间我们如何pass our time，就是我们的日常消遣啦

Crews of 22 people in long, dragon-shaped boats race lengths of 2000 meters.

22名队员坐在像龙一样的长长的船里，比赛划2000米。

Crew：成员、队员Dragon-shaped: 形状像龙一样的名词-shaped，像...一样的，这个构词法超级常见，建议大家熟悉Race: 动词，比赛、竞赛

虽然端午节还有其他一些活动，如喝雄黄酒（realgar wine），门口挂菖蒲和艾叶（calamus & wormwood）, 但把赛龙舟和吃粽子这两个tradition介绍清楚了，就非常well done啦~

切记，粽子虽好吃，但别贪多哦，毕竟糯米不大好消化，特别对于一些胃不好的人来说，应浅尝即止！

英文小故事，讲述端午节的来龙去脉

The Dragon Boat Festival,also called Double Fifth Festival,is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month according to the Chinese calendar.

This festival is to commemorate the death of QU Yuan,an upright and honest poet and statesman who is said to have committed suicide by drowning himself in a river.

The most important activity of this festival is the Dragon Boat races. It symbolizes people‘s attempts to rescue Qu Yuan. In the current period, these races also demonstrate the virtues of cooperation and teamwork.

Besides,the festival has also been marked by eating zong zi (glutinous rice).

Zong zi is made of glutinous rice stuffed with different fillings and wrapped in bamboo or reed leaves. People who mourned the death of Qu threw Zong zi into the river to feed his ghost every year.

With the changes of the times,the memorial turns to be a time for protection from evil and disease for the rest of year. People will hang healthy herbs on the front door to clear the bad luck of the house.

Although the significance of the festival might be different from the past， it still gives the observer an opportunity to glimpse a part of the rich Chinese cultural heritage.
