Practice driving a manual car by

I once read one article which said someone learned swimming by imagining practicing swimming and when he throwed himself into water, to his surprise, he could swim primarily. And some basketball players improved their scorning rate by imagining shooting. Isn’t it a little ridiculous?

I admit it’ll help only by imagining but if we want to have a good command of the skill we want to learn, we have to practice it in the real world.

If we never do one thing in the real world, it’s hard to learn and improve the skill. For basketball players, they know how to shoot more accurately so they could improve their skills only by imagining. But for people like me who never touch basketball, it’s impossible to learn shooting only by imagining shooting.

I could drive an automatic car very well and seldom drive a manual car. My boss arranged me to drive his manual car to another city which is a little hard for me. what could I do? The imagining way came into my mind. I called my father to teach me some skills of driving a manual car and watched driving videos. And then I imagined driving a manual car again and again. I imagined how to drive at any situations I could think of. After many times of imagining, I have been clear about almost every details of driving a manual car. And connecting with my driving experience, I believe I could drive well tomorrow.

I’ll imagine driving tonight again. This is a valuable opportunity for me to test whether imagining is a vilified way to improve skills.
