据英媒报道，3月14日，英国著名物理学家史蒂芬•霍金去世，享年76岁。3.14是圆周率π的前三位，也是著名物理学家爱因斯坦的诞辰之日。而霍金出生的那天，正是物理学先驱伽利略逝世300周年的忌日。大概这就是霍金与物理学的缘分。
霍金出生于英国牛津，是英国剑桥大学著名物理学家。他21岁时患上肌肉萎缩性侧索硬化症（卢伽雷氏症），自此失去说话能力，只能依靠手指按动讲话器按钮来表达自己的思想，与外界交流。但在这种情况下，他依然完成并发表了《时间简史》，深入浅出地向人们介绍宇宙学，并继续进行科学研究。
