We keep running monthly sentiment survey to gather each team member’s feeling in some aspects like productivity, communication, coordination, quality, third party dependency and etc. It seems to be a discipline that the score of third party dependency always gets the lowest score. Not only one team, but also majority of teams meet this kind of case.
Usually, we choose smile to each other and then just think we find an interesting thing- nice going.
Is it really nice going? It needs more attention. When we pick up the value, transparency, from four SAFe values, ‘nice going’ becomes a problem. We used to thinking other teams do worse than us (in other word, we do better than others). Why? I would say the transparency it’s still in lack. Sure, we care more about whether our dependency can be delivered to us in time. Once one item is not delivered in time with high quality, we would say ‘No’. The linkage among teams is only dependency work, isn’t too isolated? Image, if teams can share their progress, challenge, good practice frequently, even more, we succeed in getting valuable helps from other teams, won’t we have high confidence for other team? And hence to have higher score about third party dependency?
