    1、Connecting the dots.

    You can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something - your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life.

    你无法在展望的时候连接起人生中的点,回望来时路,你才能逐渐发现他们清晰的关系。所以,你必须相信那些生命中的点终将在未来连接起来。你必须相信些什么,你的直觉、命运、生命、因缘,只要使你更加坚定。这个方法从来没让我失望过,它让我的人生变得不同。

    2、Love and loss.

    You've got to find what you love.And that is as true for your work as it is for your lovers. Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking until you find it. Don't settle.

    你必须找到你所钟爱的。对于工作如此,对于爱人也是如此。你的工作将填充你大部分的人生,而唯一使你感到真正满意的方式,就是做你认为伟大的事情。成就大事的唯一途径,就是热爱你的工作。如果你还没找到所爱,那就继续寻找,不要停下。只要你全心全意去找,当你找到的时候你就会知道的。和一切伟大的关系一样,随着时间流逝,你们会相处的越来越好。所以你要不断寻找,直到你找到它。不要停下!

    3、Death.

    I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: "If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?" And whenever the answer has been "No" for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.

    Remembering that I'll be dead soon is the most important tool I've ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life. Because almost everything – all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure - these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.

    Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma - which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of other's opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.

    我每天早上对着镜子问自己:“如果今天就是你生命的最后一天,你会继续做今天做的事情吗?”不论什么时候,在一段时间答案都是“不”,那么我明白是时候改变了。

    如果今天是你生命中的最后一天,事情就会变得清晰可见。《高效能认识的七个习惯》中,在寻找人生目标的一章,作者带领我们跟随内心来一场“自己的葬礼”。面对死亡时,才能发现自己真正想做的事情,真正的目标是什么。五十而知天命,是因为自己将不久于人世,抛下了原有的太多禁锢。

    如果你不久就要死去,你还会做现在的事情吗?

    Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish.

    求知若渴,大智若愚。保持对知识的渴望,保持谦虚的空杯心态。

    知易行难,想要保持对求知欲、保持空杯心态并不容易。

    求知,首先是承认自己的无知,还要有想要改变的动力,有行动的勇气。那些不知道自己不知道的人,是不会去学的。所谓井底之蛙,夜郎自大,正是如此。

    每当重读这段经典的建议,都会有不一样的思考。译文是个人翻译,水平有限仅做参考。很多地方和原文意境上还是相去甚远,建议一定要读原文。
