In the world, who you are not just depends on your social rule, such as engineer, doctor, teacher and so on, also depends on yourself, your mind and the way you perceive the world.
Story is a good medium to help us understand how the world works when someone can’t perform well due to congenital or postnatal defects. When we are children, we are asked by teacher or parents to read books or articles introducing inspirational figure who are physical disability but with strong mind, such as Hellen Keller, Stephen Willliam Hawking, etc. Maybe you still remember the situation reading the essay named three days to see.
Sometimes, people don’t stand such handicap and just not being good looking people are suffering more. The movie wonder shows that.
The starring Auggie was mandibulofacial dysostosis and looks like a monster although he had suffered so many times plastic surgery. Because of his special appearance, he had to been home-schooled by his mother. When he is approaching the middle school age, his parents enroll him in a private school, for the start of middle school. From that moment, Auggie started a very struggling school life.
Almost everyone stared at him and whispered.He can’t stand students’ reaction and imagine a special world for himself where he is happy. You can predict that he finally get along well with his classmates and students at school don’t pay attention to his face. But for Auggie, it a long way.
Although there is few plots depicting his parents sorrow and anxiety, it is true that they stand more pressure. It is worth to appreciate that his parents teach him positively and confront the cruel world in a different way, a more active and optimistic way.
Due to Auggie’s special experience, his parents can’t find extra energy to take care of his sister. The sister have to be a very strong girl and deal with everything independently after her grandma, the only one who listen to her and love her more, passed away. She knows that she has to be fine although she still is a teenager and has so many upset things and needs help.
I don’t know real feeling of the sister. My ex-workmate, his brother is congenital heart disease patient, was a little difference from others. Maybe he shared the same experience with Auggie’s sister.
Wonder means you have to overcome difficulty in work or life and keep going with a positive mind and never give up whatever you experience. Remember you are the best one.
