第一次的英文分享稿

今年二月底妈妈回老家之后，我有了放松的独处时间，开始思考我喜欢什么？我想要什么？

想要留学、想要外出过旅居生活、想要分享自己的视角下解读的世界。这一切都离不开英语，那就从英语开始吧，于是我参加了英语角。

没想到去了几次混脸熟之后，居然受到组织者邀请我进行一些职业方面的分享，对于契合的机会我当然勇敢说：yes！

于是就有了今天这篇分享稿（为了适应公众号阅读的场景及时间，对内容作了一些修改）。这是我第一次尝试用英语写作，很勇敢地表达了更真实的情况，也是公众号开了几年以来的首次尝试，为自己感到开心！

Who Am I ？

It’s my honor to be here as a sharing guest. Thanks for inviting me as the first speaker of this event. I was so flattered when I got the invitation.

It’s my first time to give a speech in English. It means a lot to me, especially these days, because I’ve been a housewife for 2 years, and most importantly, I recently got a divorce.

Therefore, I appreciated for this valuable opportunity.

Now, I want to give a simple self-introduction.

My English name is Gloria. My Chinese name is Lin Jing. I’m a single mom with a 7-year-old boy.

My major in college was Clinical Psychology, but instead of becoming a doctor or a psychologist, I went into the Internet industry and became an “operator” on the Internet for 9 years.

What did I do ？

Most likely, people who are not from the Internet industry do not know what I meant by “operator” on the Internet.

As a mother, I would compare a product (no matter website or application) to a child. The role people are probably familiar with is product manager (PM). If we think of a PM as a mother who gives birth to the product, then the operator is the one who raises it.

We are responsible for all kinds of things as long as it positively influences the growth of the product.

An example of this is: how to draw people’s attention to the product and get them start to use it (e.g., come up with a great idea to draw people willing to scan the code and download a new application).

Another examples is how to make people like the product more (e.g., gathering feedback from users to improve the product)

Or how to provide a nice activity so that people would use the product more frequently maybe even more likely to pay for it.

How to do it ？

To be honest, it’s not an easy job if you are not passionate about it, because it requires a lot of learning, deep thinking, and adjusting.

I said “learning” is that everything is new and no one knows how to make it the best, so you need to learn and put what you’ve learned into practice at the same time. It really improves our ability of self-study.

I said “deep thinking” because every product improves so quickly, and there is no secrets between you and your competitors (that is, when your customers are individuals, not companies), so there will be lots of copycats in the circle. Therefore, you have to think deeply to find the core competitiveness of your product.

I said “adjusting” in that everything changes so quickly nowadays, especially on the Internet. If you are dealing with company or school, that’s better, but when you are dealing with individual users, their needs are more unpredictable and require feedback more urgently.

Why did I quit？

As you can see, it probably considered as a stressful job.

The good thing is you can grow like a rocket. On the other hand, you work overtime a lot.

That was ok before I became a mom. I didn’t have entertainment time during weekdays, but I could play hard on weekends.

But babies don't work like that.

They need you whenever they need you—no matter what day is it, no matter what time is it!

Therefore, I started to think about how to balance work and family.

That’s a significant question in front of every mother, not just in China, but also in developed country, like Japan or even the USA.

It hit me one moment when I was talking to one of my friends. She was saying she admired me for being so energetic, and I suddenly realized I wasn’t able to be around my boy on weekdays but only on weekends.

Before I was a mom, I insisted to raise my child in the same city where I work, but with this job, I felt like he’s almost a left-behind child since we can only spend time together on weekends.

That was the very moment I started to think about quitting my job to find a way so that I don’t have to miss my son’s childhood.

Apart from this , there's also huge ageism problem in internet company , anyone who is above 35 years old and not being high leval management will facing the issue of getting fired or hard to find another job.

And thosewere the two major challenges was going to come up against me.

What do I want ？

As I seperated from my kid's dad , felt like the bottom time of my life . But at the same time , I can try everything I want because I have nothing to lose .

Finaily, I was able to listen to my heart ,my voice deep inside. I asked myself : what do I want in my life ? What kind of life I want to live ?

Get rid of all the expectation from my family ,from the society . I'm not confused anymore.

I want to go abroad , I want to see the world. Not by medias or others, but myself, my own eyes.

I want to make friends with different people who grown up in different cultures, but without prejudice, listen to their stories with my own ears ; feel their emotions wiith my own heart.

Capture them with my footage, memorize them with my own words, leave a mark in my own way.

But what leads me there ?

What do I do now ？

As I started to make friends with foreigners, people keep telling me my English is good , and one of my friend suggested me to teach Chinese ( including manderin and Cantonese ) for foreigners.

I figured why not , my Chinese pronunciation is good enough to be a Chinese teacher here , my English is fluent enough to communicate to foreigners , Chinese is my mother laugnage , and I really excited about getting to know different people from all over the world .
