Sonnet 7: Crowd

    No more shall I spend time on seeking you,

    for I’ve retrieved what’s lost among the crowd.

    When I glanced through the apparitions few,

    I thought I found the beauty once me wowed.

    The same old gleaming diamonds shone beneath

    the willowy brows; the same old ripples snuck

    upon the nose when smile that face did wreathe;

    th’angelic voice my heartstring once did pluck.

    Yet I put not the puzzle back to whole:

    each tile attaches to a face unknown.

    O! Let alone the missing piece of soul

    of yours, the sole pursuit of my life lone.

    I vow I’ll never seek your phantom ‘gain

    lest I may spend my pointless days in vain.
