①repelled——forced away

驱逐——被迫离开

Eg:My new jecket repels water—— it's waterproof.

我的新夹克可以防水——它是防水衣物。

②high-stakes——there's a lot at risk

高风险——风险很大

Eg:IELTS is a high-stakes test. You'll have to pay to do it again if you fall.

雅思是一项高风险的考试。如果你考砸了，你必须付钱再考一次。

③drought——a period of time with no rian

干旱——一段时间没有下雨

goal drought——进球荒:通常进球很多的球员突然停止进球了。

Eg:Drought can cause dangerous wildfires to start.

干旱会引发危险的野火。

④overwhelm——cover something completely and quickly

“压垮”——完全快速地覆盖某物

Eg:The city was overwheled by  water after the river burst its bank.

河水决堤后，城市被大水淹没。

⑤taints——turn something good to bad

污染——把好的东西变成坏的

Eg:The lake was tainted by industrial waste.

湖水被工业废料污染了。
