只被用做调度车厢也没翻过山
但他勇敢地挑战了自己帮助了其他小朋友

《The little engine that could》被美国纽约图书馆推荐为“每个人应该读的100本图画书之一”，是美国幼儿园小朋友必备的图书，就连美剧《生活大爆炸》中的谢尔顿扮演者吉姆·伯森斯从小也最爱读这本书~
《The little engine that could》
Chug,chug,chug,Puff,puff,puff.Ding-dong,ding-dong.The little train rumbled over the tracks.She was a happy little train.
恰克恰克恰克——小小火车隆隆的走在铁轨上。她是开心的小火车。
Her cars were filled with toy animals.Giraffes with long necks,Teddy bears with almost no necks at all,and even a baby elephant.Then there were dolls and the funniest little toy clown you ever saw.
她的车厢里都装满了有毛绒玩具、小丑玩偶，还有玩具火车、飞机、拼图，只要是小朋友们想要的，统统都有。
But that was not all.Some cars were filled with good things for boys and girls to eat—
不止这样呢，有些车厢里还装满了要给小朋友吃的好东西——
golden oranges,red-cheeked apples,bottles of milk,and even lollipops for after-meal treats.
大颗的金黄柳橙、红彤彤的苹果、早餐的香醇牛奶、晚餐的新鲜菠菜，还有冰激凌和棒棒糖。
The little train was carrying all these wonderful things to the good little boys and girls on the other side of the mountain.
这列小火车正要把东西送去给山那边的乖孩子呢。
She puffed along merrily.Then all of a sudden she stopped.She simply could not go another inch.She tried and tried,but her wheels would not turn!
她喷着烟，开心地向前进。但是她突然停住了...她完全没办法再往前走一步，她试了又试，轮子就是不转了。
“Here comes a shiny new engine,”said the little clown.
小丑跳出火车说：“来了一辆一辆闪闪发亮的新型火车头，我们找他帮忙吧。”
All the dolls and toys cried out together.“Please,Shiny New Engine,won't you pull our train over the mountain?"
他们一起大声喊：“新型的火车头，能不能带我们过那座山？”
"Our engine has broken down,and the boys and girls on the other side won't have any toys to play with or good food to eat unless you help us."
“我们的火车头坏了，如果你不帮我们的话，山那头的小男孩和小女孩就没有玩具可以玩，也没有东西可以吃了。”
But the Shiny New Engine snorted:“I pull you?I am a Passenger Engine.My train has sleeping cars and dining car with waiters to serve hungry people.I pull the likes of you?Indeed not!”
但是新型火车头哼了一声说：“哼！让我拉你们？我可是载客的火车耶，我的车厢里里有软绵绵的卧铺，有装着各种美食的餐车，是为了服务饥饿的客人的。让我拉你们这些小东西，才不要呢！再见！”
And off he steamed.
新型火车头关掉了蒸汽阀，他不愿意帮忙。
The little train and all the dolls and toys were very sad."Cheer up,"said the little clown.
小火车头和玩偶们都很伤心。“打起精神来！”小丑说。
"The Big Engine is not the only one in the word.Here comes another.He looks very old and tired,but our train is so little,perhaps he can help us.”
“这世界上又不是只有运货列车。那边又开来一辆火车。他看上去很老又很累的样子，但我们的火车很小，也许他会答应帮忙。”
But the Rusty Old Engine sighed:“I am so tired.I must rest my weary wheels.I cannot pull even so little a train as yours over the mountain.I can not.I can not.I can not.”
但老火车头叹着气说道：“我很累了，我必须让我疲惫的轮子休息，就连你们这么小的车厢，我都不可能拉过山头的，我不行，不行。”
And off he rumbled.
老火车头开走了。
By now,the dolls and toys were so sad they were ready to cry.
大家都好难过，玩偶们都快要哭出来了。
But the little clown called out,“Here is another engine coming,a little blue engine,a very little one,but perhaps she will help us.”
但是，玩具小丑大喊：“又有一辆火车来了，是个蓝色小火车头，很小一个，他也许会帮助我们的。”
The very little engine came chug,chugging merrily along.
小火车头恰克恰克得开了过来。当她看到挥着旗子的小丑时他急刹车停下了。
“What is the matter,my friends?”she asked kindly.
“我的朋友，怎么了？”她友好的问。
“Oh,Little Blue Engine,”cried the dolls and toys.
“Will you pull us over the mountain?Our engine has broken down and the good boys and girls on the other side won't have any toys to play with or good food to eat,unless you help us.Please,please help.”
“蓝色的火车头，能不能帮帮我们？我们要把玩具和食物送给山那边的小朋友。”
“I am not very big,I have never been over the mountain.But I think I can.I think I can.I think I can.”And the Little Blue Engine hitched herself to the little train.
“我很小，我从未爬过山。但我想我能做到！我想我能做到！我想我能做到！”然后，她把车厢挂在自己身上出发了！
She tugged and pulled and pulled and tugged and slowly,slowly,slowly they started off.
她使劲地拉呀拉，慢慢的，火车前进了。
Puff,puff,chug,chug,went the Little Blue Engine,“I think I can—I think I can—I think I can.”
我能做到，我能做到！！我能做到，我能做到！！我能做到！！
Up,up,up.Faster and faster the little engine climbed,until at last they reached the top of the mountain.
小火车头越开越快，终于开到了山顶。
“Hurray,hurray,”cried the little clown and all the dolls and toys.“The good little boys and girls in the city will be happy because you helped us!"
“万岁！万岁！勇敢的小火车头，因为你的帮助，城市里的孩子们都会很开心的。”
And the Little Blue Engine smiled and seemed to say as she puffed steadily down the mountain.“I thought I could.I thought I could.I thought I could.”
蓝色小火车微笑着，她缓缓地喷着烟，嘟嘟的声音好像在说：“我可以做到的，我可以做到的，我可以做到的！”
