We envision the internet troll, a person who posts inflammatory, antagonizing online content online, as a monster hiding behind the safety of online world. In reality,  trolls can be our friends, neigbors, parents, even ourselves.

我们把网络喷子设想为一个在隐藏在网络安全背后，发布煽动性，有害性网络评论的怪物。在现实中，这些网络喷子可能是我们的朋友，邻居，父母，甚至是我们自己。

Even if you don't fit the definition of a troll,which is associated with a deliberate attempt to cause a discord, it's easy to find yourself wading in the murky waters of the trolldom. In other words, we all have the capacity to engage in unproductive, meanspirited arguments online that don't reflect our characters in person.

就像你不像网络喷子故意发起网络战争，你也很容易卷进网络战争的这趟浑水里，换言之，我们都有可能引发一起毫无意义，又刻薄的网络评论，而这些不能我们的真实个性。

Lure Leskovec and his colleagues at Stanford University studied trolling behavior and found two main factors that drive bad behavior/behaviour: nagative moods and discussion context. The comments were more likely to be toxic when others had already left toxic comments. 

斯坦福大学的Lure和他的同事对喷子的行为进行研究，发现2个最能导致坏行为的2个重要因素：消极情绪和讨论的语境。如果有人已经留下了不悦的评论，那更能引发不悦的评论。

Another research at Cornell found that empathy-trying to understand other person's opinion comes from was one of the most important tips for effectively arguing online. Also, the subtle ways in which language usedhad a big effect on the arguement.

科奈尔大学的另一项研究表明，同理心-尝试理解别人观点的出处可以更有效地在网络上评论。而巧妙的语言也会影响整个评论。

Of course, sometimes, it is just not worth engaging in online debates. When someone is trolling-using hateful, offensive language to incite anger, it is best to skip the conversation altogether.

当然，有些时候，完全没有必要在网络开起争论，如果用伤害性，攻击性的语言引发一场争论，最好就不要加入到这场争论中去。
