I try to be particularly careful with my speech when Iam tired. It is very helpful to be a meditator. You can stop yourself beforeyou release the words.

Talking too much about things that have no great meaningis the most common misuse of words. Why bother filling up your mind withuseless bits of information. Wasting other people’s time is a very expensiveseed to be planting in this busy world.

The result of thisseed is having a mind that will never stop talking to you. It is a real pain to when you sit down to meditate only to find thatyou have a mind that wants to keep talking. That busy, talkative mind comesprecisely as result of planting seeds of speaking uselessly. Sometimes to putothers at ease we engage in small talk and that is not what I am talking abouthere. It’s the times when you just like to hear yourself talk. You are talkingbecause you want to. You aren’t focused at all on what someone else needs. Ifsomeone is talking to you uselessly then try to listen attentively, try tolearn something and when you can you excuse yourself.
