    P103-113

    1. I have no idea how we are going to pull this thing off.

Pull the thing off: succeeded in doing something challenging 做成了某事,挑战成功。

eg. Did you get a good score on your IELTS? It was so hard, but I pulled it off! I got into University!

    2. Another thins that’s screwing everything up is that Mrs. Norton keeps adding new scenes.

Screw sth. up: to make a mistake, or to spoil something 搞砸,弄糟

eg.I totally screwed up the chemistry exam.

    3. because crawling around on all fours would be too “degrading.”

Degrade: to treat someone without respect and make them lose respect for themselves.

eg. A movie that degrades women.

    4. He couldn’t stick his arms out to break his fall.

Stick out: to go past the surface or edge of something 探出,突显

eg. Her teeth stick out a bit.

    5. I was peeking through the curtain to check out how many people showed up to see the play

    6. RJ had stage fright.

Have stage fright: nervous feelings felt by performers before they appear in front of an audience 怯场

eg. Actors or performers who have stage fright are nervous because they are about to perform.

    7. Rodney couldn’t budge.

Budge: to move ,or to make someone or sth move

She leaned on the door, but it wouldn’t budge.

    8. His mum has to carry him off.

    Carry someone off : 把某人带走

    9. So I did some quick ad-libbing and I was able to deflect the embarrassment over to Archie Kelly.

Ad- libbing: Sth. Said by an actor or other performer that is not in the script 即兴台词

eg. He's good at ad-libbing his way out of trouble.

    10. Mrs. Norton playing the first few bars of “we three tress”

Bar : a group of notes and rests, separated from other groups by vertical lines, into which a line of written music is divided. 乐曲中的小节

Eg. A few bars of the song.

    11. Pretty soon, the rest of the Trees started throwing apples, too. I think Toto even got in on the action. 插一手

Go in on the action: to join in sth, to take part in an activity that someone else is doing.= take part in , join in

My mum always like to go in on the action to help prepare parcel the day before we take on trip to somewhere.

    作文:

I have signed up two online course of English study . One of the app course which required to clock in every day for study at least 30 minutes of the schedule. But the other one is “diary of a wimpy kid”. I keep my scheduled to the course study every single day, but yesterday I was busy to go another city for interview. That is the reason I have no time to complete the online study for 30 minutes till the end of the day. The next day the leader of the class sent weichat message to ask me the reason for lack of course online. I guess she is a responsible assistant teacher for all the classmates in order to finishing the online course day by day.

P105 Thank God Rodrick won’t be in the audience to see me humiliate myself.

P107 He couldn’t resist the chance to see me embarrass myself
