Staying Behind
by Jacob Yang
The wind kept calling when I sent you away that night
We had a quarrel and did not hug
I was like a penguin staying behind
Beyond a glass wall I looked at you from afar for long
“Don't forget to water the plants”
Your reminders always come into mind at midnight
The wind is soaked with icy cold moonlight
The thin and dark red croton leaves are shivering
I'm afraid it may be carried away by the wind
So I hold her up with my palms
Like holding your shivering body when you cry
But the tears are still hidden for now
They won't form at the heart tips of leaves until next dawn
Everywhere the lowly sounds of insects are drifting tonight
Between the sleeping constellations, a slient star
Slowly paddles across the ocean of deep blue
