    Hands-On with Reporting Tools

Going back all the way to Basics 101, you have built a data pipeline in the Flow, deployed work from the Lab, and explored your data through a number of visualizations.

In this hands-on lesson in the Basics courses, let’s build a dashboard to communicate key insights from your project.

    Publish to a Dashboard

Return to the previous DSS project where you deployed work from the Lab to the Flow. Your goal will be to publish the charts from the customers_labeled dataset to a dashboard.

    • Open the customers_labeled dataset and navigate to the Charts tab.
    • Click the blue Publish button on the top right.
    • Select all four charts created in the previous hands-on exercise.
    • You can choose to publish to the default dashboard or create a new one.
    • You can choose to place the charts on multiple slides or just Slide 1.

    Note
Compare this screen with the Charts tab of the previous visual analysis Analyze customers_joined. Note that the “Publish to dashboard” button is not functional. Recall the previous lesson on the Lab to understand why this is the case!

    Explore Dashboard options

Now let’s modify the layout and behavior of the dashboard.

    • Adjust the placement and size of the charts on the slide(s).
    • For each chart, experiment with options in the Tile menu, such as the click behavior.
    • Change the slide title.
    • Change the name of the dashboard.

    Publish from a Dashboard

Let’s add another insight to the dashboard.

    • Create a new slide.
    • Click the green “Add tile” icon at the bottom right.
    • Experiment adding different kinds of tiles.
    • Add at least one new dataset to the dashboard.

    Export a dashboard

    Warning
For this last step, you will need to have first enabled the dashboard and flow export feature.

When you are satisfied with your dashboard, you can export it.

    • In the Actions tab of your dashboard, click the Export button.
    • Adjust the file type, size, and orientation of your export as needed.
    • Click “Export Dashboard”.

    What’s next?

Congratulations on completing the Basics series of courses. Continue on to other courses in the Core Designer learning path to expand your knowledge of Dataiku DSS!
