What is marketing?
Marketing isn't just selling soap.
When we give a TED Talk, we are marketing. When we ask our boss for a raise, we are marketing. When we raise money for the local playground, we are marketing. And yes, when we're trying to grow our division at work, that's marketing too. For a long time, during the days when marketing and advertising were the same things, marketing was reserved for vice president with a budget.
And we need to answer another question, how to know if we have a marketing problem?
It's easy. If
We aren't busy enough. Our ideas aren't spreading. The community around us isn't what it could be. The people we care about aren't achieving everything they hope.
Our politician needs more votes, Our work isn't fulfilling, Our customers are frustrated...
If we see a way to make things better, We now have a marketing problem
And marketing is the act of making change happen. Making is insufficient. You haven't made an impact until you've changed someone.
