The Beautiful Scar
美丽的伤疤
A little boy invited his mother to attend his school's first teacher-parent meeting.
一个小男孩邀请他的母亲去参加学校的第一次家长会。
To the little boy's disappointment, she said she would go.
令小男孩沮丧的是，母亲说她要去。
This would be the first time that his classmates and teacher met his mother and he felt ashamed of her appearance.
这将是他的同学和老师第一次见到他的母亲，他为母亲的外貌感到难为情。
Although she was a beautiful woman, there was a severe（重） scar that covered nearly the entire right side of her face.
尽管她很漂亮，但她右半边脸几乎被一块丑陋的伤疤覆盖了。
The boy never wanted to talk about why or how she got the scar.
男孩从来不想谈论她为什么会有这个伤疤，也不想谈论她怎么会有这个伤疤。
At the meeting, the people were impressed by the kindness and natural beauty of his mother in spite of the scar, but the little boy was still embarrassed and hid himself from everyone.
在会上，尽管母亲脸上有伤疤，但她的善良和天生丽质还是给人留下了深刻的印象。但这个小男孩仍然很窘迫，他躲着大家。
He did, however, get within hearing of a conversation between his mother and his teacher.
但是他又躲在可以听见母亲和老师谈话的地方。
The teacher asked seriously, "How did you get the scar on your face?"
老师严肃地问：“你脸上的伤疤是怎么来的？”
The mother replied, "When my son was a baby, he was in a room that caught fire. Everyone was too afraid to go in because the fire was out of control, so I went in.
母亲回答说：“我儿子很小的时候，他的房间着火了。由于火势失去控制，没有人敢进去，所以我进去了。
As I was running toward his bed, I saw a long piece of wood coming down and I placed myself over him trying to protect him.
当我朝他的床跑去的时候，我看到一根长长的木头掉了下来，我伏在他身上试图保护他。
I was knocked senseless but fortunately, a fireman came in and saved both of us."
我被木头砸得不省人事，但幸运的是，一名消防员冲了进来，救了我们两个。”
She touched the burned side of her face. "This scar will be lasting, but to this day, I have never regretted what I did."
她摸了摸烧伤的那侧脸。“这个伤疤会永远存在，但直到今天，我从未为我所做的事感到后悔。”
At this point, the little boy came out running toward his mother with tears in his eyes.
这时，小男孩眼里含着泪水向妈妈跑去。
He held her in his arms and felt a great sense of the sacrifice that his mother had made for him. He held her hand tightly for the rest of the day.
他抱住母亲，感受到母亲为他做出了巨大的牺牲。接下来一整天，他都紧紧地握着母亲的手。
