I have two friends. One is short, and the other is tall.
My short friend is fat, bald and ugly, but his girlfriend is beautiful. My tall friend is handsome, intelligent and strong, but his girlfriend is ugly.
Oh, one more thing: my short friend is rich, but my tall friend is poor.

III. Grammar Points语法重点
本课主要介绍代词。one...The other...。的用法，并介绍并列连词and的用法。
- I have two friends. One is short, and the other is tall.
（我有两个朋友。一个是矮个子，另一个是高个子。）
注意下列代词的用法:
a. 两者: one... the other... 一个······另一个·····
例: I have two brothers. One is a teacher, and the other is a soldier.
(我有两个哥哥。一个是老师,另一个是军人。)
b. 三者: one...another...the other... 一个......一个......另一个·····
例: Her three sisters are busy now. One is cooking in the kitchen, another fixing her bike in the yard, and the other is studying in the living room。
(她的三个姐姐现在都很忙。一个正在厨房作
饭，一个正在院子里修她的自行车,另一个则正在客厅里看书。) - My short friend is fat, bald and ugly.

上句中的and是并列连词，表示“和”、“以及”的意思，连接fat、bald及ugly三个平行对等的形容词。and可连接平行的单词、短语、从句或句子。
例: John(n.) and David(n.) are good friends.

She is beautiful(a.) and helpful(a.).
(她美丽又乐于助人。)
she sings(v.) and dances(v.) very well.

I like him because he is intelligent(状语从句) and because he is helpful(状语从句).

注意:
a. and连接两个平行单词时，and之前不得置逗号。
例: My friend is handsome, and intelligent.( X )
→ My friend is handsome and intelligent.( O )
(我的朋友英俊又聪明。)
b. and连接三个平行单词时，第一个单词与第二个单词之间置逗号，and则置于第二个单词与第三个单词之间，and之前则可置逗号，但通常予以省略。
例: My Friend is handsome, intelligent, and strong. ( 可 )
→ My friend is handsome, intelligent and
strong. ( 常用 ) - and连接平行的句子时，and之前通常置一逗号；but亦为并列连词，表示“但是”、“不过”的意思，用来连接平行的句子时，but之前通常也置一逗号。
例: He loves Jane, and (he) is planning to marry her this year.
（他很爱简，且正计划今年要跟她结婚。）
He likes music, but his girlfriend hates it.
（他喜欢音乐，但他的女友讨厌音乐。） - Oh, one more thing: my short friend is rich, but my tall friend is poor.
