Predicting the future is notoriously difficult. Who could have imagined, in the mid 1970s, for example, that by the end of the 20th century, computers would be as commonin people's homes as TV sets? In the 1970s,computers were common enough,but onlyin big business, government departments, and large
organizations. These were the so- called mainframe machines. Mainframecomputers were very large indeed, oftenoccupying whole air-conditioned rooms, employingfull-time technicians and run on specially-written software. Though these largemachines still exist, many of their functions havebeen

今天练习了元音音标[u]：嘴唇噘起向前，同时缩成一个小孔（手指戳不进去），就像要接吻一样，然后舌头平放，舌头后部隆起，发音。

4. 练习感悟
1）我的朗读语调平坦，没有抑扬顿挫的节奏，自己读的时候感觉不明显，听自己的录音时就很明显了，特别是和课文朗读对比差距太大，要多向课文朗读学习这种节奏感。
2）今天学到一个常用单词：common，可以用来翻译“普遍”、“普及”、“常说的”。比如 commonly known as 常说的...，common enough 非常普及。以前对common的理解和认识就是常见，普通，没用到普及和常说的这层意思。
