BBC News. Hello, I'm Tom Watts.
The United States and the Taliban are to hold their first face-to-face talks since the militants seize control of Afghanistan in August. The meeting will take place in the Qatari capital Doha. The US State Department denied the talks conferred legitimacy on the Taliban.
From Washington, here's Nomia Iqbal.
US officials have stressed this is not about recognizing the Taliban. Instead, they say this is about continuing conversations with them on issues that matter to the US, such as the safe passage of American citizens and allies in Afghanistan as well as making sure the country doesn't turn into a hotbed for terrorists.

The State Department says it will press the Taliban to form an inclusive government that has women in it with broad support.
While the Taliban has promised to be more inclusive than when it led the country in the past, the US has repeatedly said it will judge them on its deeds not words.
Brazil has become only the second country after the United States to register more than 600,000 coronavirus-related deaths.
only the second 这里only是副词,副词位置比较灵活,放在second前后均可,都表示“仅次于”
