Sonnet 4: Amour viele

The first infatuation’s oft so fierce,

so fervent, like the fiery falling star.

Through layers ‘pon layers of hindrance it did pierce,

amazed us with effulgence from afar.

When time has run its course, the heat cools down.

No more bedazzling radiance, what’s left just

the carcass drawing mere contempt and frown,

as time abrading this rock into dust.

Yet far above nocturnal welkin shine

some stars consuming slowly passion’s fuels.

Their gloomy yet eonian rays define

eternity that mocks us time’s slaves fools.

So long as flickering stars beam, so long

my heart of fire unquenched to you belong.
