狄更斯是维多利亚时期的大文豪，
被认为only second to Shakespeare,
他曾经做过journalist, editor, illustrator,
童年经历也比较悲催，
所以他经常中流露出对儿童的compassion.
有意思的是，
他的作品并不会让人留下的心酸的泪水，
反而有一点幽默，使人发笑。

英式幽默也是冷幽默，
克制、含蓄、讽刺、自嘲。
这样的enjoyment也许只有英国人自己才能get，
但这也不妨碍全世界读者的会心一笑。
托尔斯泰说，
“忧来无方，窗外下雨，坐沙发，吃巧克力，读狄更斯，心情会更好，和世界妥协。”
这大概也是因为狄更斯曾说，
“There is nothing better than a friend, unless it is a friend with chocolate."
