（这是我在简书写的第40篇文章。）
今天参加了一个英语活动，一个母语为英语的加拿大籍华裔组织的。母语和二外的主要区别就是，一个人在神游也不影响他听懂母语，而二外特别要求精神集中。
Today I participated in an English activity organized by a native English speaking Chinese Canadian.
You will still catch up the conversation spoken in your mother tongue when your mind is absent, but you fail to do it in a foreign language. That’s the main difference between a native language and foreign language.
今天近100%听懂老师所说的，这让我觉得不可信。平日，不会有机会说英语，我去爬山会遇到一些外国人，有时听外国人之间交流，我会听不懂，听VOA新闻也是经常听不懂。
Today, the teacher spoke English all the way, and I got it all, which seems unbelievable. I have no much chance to practice English in my daily life.
I do meet some strange foreigners when I take part in some hiking activities, and I find that I am unable to catch up their conversation sometimes. And i find my hearing is so poor when I listen to VOA news。
可能是因为老师今天说的都是比较日常的对话，没什么生僻的字词吧。
Is it just because what the teacher said today are all simple words ?
最近有在百词斩背单词。以往，经常看到一些言论说背单词没用，比如说长期来看背单词会消耗学英语的热情，水平也不会提高。
These days I am using the APP Bai Zhan Ci to memorize English words. There are quite some negative comments about memorizing English words. Such as, in the long run, it will kill your enthusiasm of learning English and not help to improve your English level.
看多了这种言论，容易被洗脑，就真的一直不去背。消耗热情是挺消耗的，毕竟背单词是单一又枯燥的活动。
You be easily brainwashed if you keep hearing these things and you will really don’t start to do it. To be honest, it will take some of your enthusiasm. After all, memorizing English words is a boring job.
但是不同意不能提高水平这个说法，虽然说地道的英语往往是简单的词语表达复杂的意思，但是简单也是有底线的。
But I don't agree with the statement that memorizing words is useless. Although perfect English often means using simple words to express complex meaning, but “simple” doesn’t means there is no bottom line.
至于要多低的底线呢，我目前在百词斩背托福单词，除了石灰岩这类的单词，不搞科研基本用不上外，没有几个单词我觉得是废的。
As to how low the bottom line should be set. Uh, I am currently memorizing English words of TOEFL level. Except a few words , like “ Limestone“ that we barely get a chance to use in our daily life, I don’t find what is really useless.
学好英语的最重要的方法自然是用起来，所以，走出去，创造机会，运用起来是重要的一步。
The best leaning way is to use it. It is important to go out, creating more opportunities for speaking.
