Recently I read some books about ART HISTORY, so I decide to write something about it and share it with you guys. I am not an art student, so don’t expect I can tell all the details. I just can share some basic information to those who have never had chance to learn the knowledge of art.
The firstimportant time node is the Renaissance, which is also called the Born Again Time. Sailors like Columbus and Magellan were interested in expansion, but citizens pay no attention to that. They just enjoyed their lives. Before that time, artists only painted religious characters, such as Jesus, Madonna, angels and saints. But during the 1500, perspective drawing, which makes the pictures look like three dimensional, arose. And many great artists, like Da Vinci, who began to focus on human being did some amazing artworks. It is Da Vinci who used the dark and light to make people feel the real-like landscape. Many artists changed the way of drawing, and new era of art was coming. In this period, there were many other wonderful artists such as Raphael, Michelangelo,Titian, Giorgione, Rubens and so on.
Then many artists like Hals, Durer, Holbein, who learnt from the first group in the Renaissanceappeared. Then came Velasquez and Lorrain who began to focus on landscape rather than portrait.
After the Renaissance came the French Revolution started in 1793. People admired ancient Roman, and they imitated how ancient Roman dressed, what was their lives. In art, it came totheCLASSICAL STYLE. Literally, they made the ancient culture reborn.
But some artists didn’t buy it. They insisted to paint what the daily life was at that time, instead ofthe fake one. These artists were called ROMANTICISTS.
Then some French painters like Monet, who are really famous nowadays for he is an IMPRESSIONIST, made big turn in painting style. He refused to paintby common sense. So what he put down was based on a quick view and he used the color according to the sunlight which was totally special at the time he painted the picture. What’s more they found if they don’t mixed the paints up,and put them on the paper directly in little dots and dashes, the picture would be much brighter.
After the impressionist is POST-IMPRESSIONIST. You are so familiar about it, because you must know Van Gogh, who is a famous artist of this painting style. They began to express their emotion in their pictures. The meaning of painting was not toput down what you have saw, it became what you have thought, what was in your mind. Another famous painter is Gauguin, who was a Frenchman.
All in all, these were few artists in the history from the 15th century to the 20th century. Hoping it would be helpful to you.
