①ordeal——a very unpleasant experience

磨难——非常不愉快的经历

Eg:Exam are an ordeal, but you need to take them.

考试是一种煎熬，但是你必须参加。

②nail-biting——it makes you really nervous

令人神经紧张的——让你非常紧张

Eg:Waiting for the test results was nail-biting.

等待考试结果的过程令人焦急不安。

同时nail-biting = nerve-wracking(伤脑筋的)

③makeshift——temporary and low quality

临时替代的——临时的，低质量的

Eg:The refugees were housed in  makeshift accommodation.

难民们被安置在临时住所里。

④gain——something useful or positive for you

收益——对你有用或积极的东西

Eg:The business increased their prices for financial gain.

企业为了经济利益提高了价格。

⑤stunt——something done for attention

噱头——为了引起注意而做的事情

Eg:The magician walked on water as part of a publicity stunt.

魔术师在水上行走是宣传噱头的一部分。
