Part 1 Words & Expressions
1. And it might even appear to succeed--but the schemer remains.
Schemer: a planner who draws up a personal scheme of action. 阴谋家,计划者
eg. Office schemer always exists for there is always such kind of needs.
2. The atmosphere in the room was really charged, and my daughter was adamantly refusing.
Adamantly: determined not to change your opinion or decision especially when people are trying to persuade you to change. adamant about, be adamant in you belief/refusal
eg. She adamantly refuse to leave her boyfriend when their parents persuade them to break up.
3. i find that long-term thinking executives are simply turned off by psych up psychology and motivational speakers who have nothing more to share than entertaining stories mingled with platitudes.
Mingled: if two or more liquids,smells etc mingle, they mix but still be recognized separately.
eg. It tastes like grass mingled with milk.
Platitude: a phrase that is so clearly true that it has no useful meaning and is therefore anoyying, especially because the person using it seems insincere and unsympathetic.
eg. Our boss hates those with full mouth of platitudes.
Part 2 Reflection
Really helping our children grow may involve being patient enough to allow them the sense of possession as well as being wise enough to teach them the value of giving and providing the example ourselves.
教育孩子懂得分享就是让他们真正感到拥有。这不仅仅是对孩子来说,对于大人来说也是,有时候的吝啬是因为没有真正感到拥有,没有安全感。
It is futile to put personality ahead of character, to try to improve relationships with others before improving ourselves.
急功近利是没有用的,积累才有力量。这个道理每个人几乎都懂,但仍然在寻找捷径。
与其以讨好获得朋友,不如提升自己,清风自来。
Admission of ignorance is often the first step in our education.
承认无知是教育的第一步。同时想到古语“人贵有自知之明”以及“stay hungry, stay foolish", 以一颗归零的心态面对新鲜事物,会学习到更多。
