湾区的冬天是雨季,清晨天亮的晚了,外面难得的湿冷,正是在家里亮起一盏台灯,泡上一杯茶,坐在沙发里读书的美好时光。
自从用上智能手机之后,人们的注意力越来越难以集中了,即便把手机上各个App的通知都关掉,也常常会为了一个问题或一个念头去网上搜索一下,然后就会不自觉地去点开一个个的App,一天的空闲时间就在那些网上的搜索,微信群朋友圈,公众号,购物车和头条热点新闻里溜走了。就算是好不容易决定捧起一本书,也会不时地因为想起些什么又随手拿起手机,然后就在不知不觉中捧着手机东看西看起来,心很难静下来,脑子里的思绪也总是跳脱着,看的文字都是断断续续的,想的问题也都是肤浅的。
在国内去餐馆吃饭,常常看见一桌人在等餐时各自低头看着手机。在地铁上不少人都在手机上玩着各种小游戏。虽然国内的家长都非常重视孩子们的学习,但主要都是上不完的补习班和做不完的作业,忙得孩子都没有时间读书,更没有功夫去读些“杂书”。所以很少能见到在公共场合捧着书在读的年轻人。倒是在美国的餐馆看到过几次孩子在等上菜时津津有味地翻读着自己带去的书,让人好生欢喜。在地铁上也能看到一些读书和读报的人。
其实想要静下心来读书,就像下决心要去跑马拉松一样,是要经过一番训练,需要去慢慢培养的好习惯。而习惯的养成是可以借助方法的,首先是由易到难,从简单的,有趣的书开始,给自己定个计划,每天定一个固定的时间,把手机关掉,安安静静地读书,哪怕只是读个20分钟。英语中有一句话,叫做“fake it 'til you make it”,意思是装装就成真的了。读书这事不妨先装模作样起来,读着读着也许就养成习惯了。
读书在我最重要的是一种状态,会有一点冥想的效果。一本好书,可以让自己沉浸在作者描绘的故事情节之中,追随着作者去到另外一个年代,体验另外一番生活,又或者是和作者一同分析,思考和对话。有时是一种享受,有时是一种经历,有时是一种思辨。有令人恍然大悟的时刻,也有让人掩卷长思的时候。
2019年已经到了尾声,回顾这一年中读过的书,一共三十来本,有些还在进行中,没有读完。记得大约是从七年前开始培养自己的读书习惯的,刚开始的第一年大概读了十本书,然后慢慢地每年多读几本,今年算是读书最多的一年了,但其实想想也还真不算什么。记得有一次参加一个培训时我们被要求在一张白纸上画上10x10的格子,然后从头开始划掉和自己年龄相同数目的格子,纸上空白的每一个格子就代表我们剩下的有生之年(乐观地按照活100岁计算),然后培训老师问了一系列的问题,其中有一个给我印象很深的问题是:“如果你今后的每年读10本书,那么你还能读多少本书?” 这么一想,还真的让人有种触目惊心的感觉。人们喜欢为新年定个计划,进入2020年就是进入一个新的年代了,给自己定个多读书的新年目标应该是不错的。如果一周读一本书,那么一年下来,也可以读完50本书了。
