They are very similar subjects and both of them belong to social sciences.
As far as I am concerned, economic focus more on resources, supply, and demand (production &consumption), i.e. the overall pictures than finance.
It contains micro and macroeconomics. the micro one studies the economic tendencies related to individuals while the macroeconomic is a branch of economics that studies how the aggregate economy behaves.
Teach a parrot the terms ‘supply and demand’ and you’ve got an economist.
