Currently, IGCSE students of business studies are learning an important topic - cash flow forecast.
Here, students have learned how important cash is for a business and the following concepts:
cash inflows/outflows, net cash flow, cash flow management/forecast etc.
As a matter of fact, cash flow management/forecast is not only important for a business or any other organisation but also crucial for one person and one family.
Here, students are assigned a project for which they need to consult their parents for family cash flow situation and also financial advice.
They will work on a cash flow statement for their families in 2019, analyse the cash inflows and outflows and answer the following questions in their reports:
(1) Generally speaking, is the family finance well planned or not?
(2) if there might be a cash flow shortage, what methods could be used to deal with this problem? (referring to what you have learned in this chapter)
(3) What expenditure will occupy the largest proportion?
(4) how much money will be spent on the kids generally? (when the student sees the amount, I assure the student will realise how much love and support s/he has received from his/her parents.)
(5) What are possible ways to increase the cash inflows for your family?
(6) Is it possible to reduce the cash outflows for your family? How?
This project is not only a good practice but also a good opportunity for parents to communicate with their kids and share key life skills and experience with their kids.
