    感悟

    第五章的后半章,还是在讲心理表征在刻意练习中的重要地位。作者反反复复地在强调这个概念。

“it is much easier to present knowledge to a large group of people than it is to set up conditions under which individuals can develop skills through practice.”这就是我们平时说的“理都懂然并卵”,大牛们告诉你应该这样那样,你还是无法成为大牛啊,因为你不知道how they developed the skills啊。

    上课学习理论知识(knowledge)是不够的,还需要实践(skills),就是这个道理,作者用刻意练习的原则解释了我们平时就知道的一些事。

同理,我看了Peak这本书,我有了deliberate practice 的knowledge ,但我不可能马上就知道怎么提高自己的写作水平,我需要具体的方案来sharpen my skill.

    Word and phrase

    “……they go to work as

    full-fledged

    physicians with the assumption that……”

    full-fledged

    合格的

He is a full-fledged doctor after three years' training.

“then the quality of care they give should increase as they

    amass

    more experience”

    amass

to collect sth, especially in large quantities

    • (尤指大量)积累,积聚

    【SYN】 accumulate :

»He amassed a fortune from silver mining.

      他靠开采银矿积累了一笔财富。

“By contrast, the least effective activities were “

    didactic

    ” interventions”

    didactic

designed to teach people sth, especially a moral lesson

    • 道德说教的;教诲的;教导的:

    »didactic art

“those educational activities that essentially consisted of doctors listening to a lecture—which,

    sadly enough

, are by far the most common types of activities”

    文中用了很多次副词+enough 的搭配。

    [with sentence adverb]used for emphasis

    [用于强调]真够

curiously enough, there is no mention of him.

    说也奇怪,竟然连提都没有提他。

    “In other words,

    to the extent that

continuing medical education is effective, it is effective in changing only the most basic things that doctors do in their practices.”

    extent [PHR] vagueness

You use expressions such as to what extent, to that extent, or to the extent that when you are discussing how true a statement is, or in what ways it is true.

We may not be able to do it to the extent that we would like.

    extent [PHR] emphasis

You use expressions such as to the extent of, to the extent that, or to such an extent that in order to emphasize that a situation has reached a difficult, dangerous, or surprising stage.

Ford kept his suspicions to himself, even to the extent of going to jail for a murder he obviously didn't commit.
