As computers translate quickly and accurately, learning foreign languages is a waste of time? To what extend do you agree or disagree.
Some think foreign languages study would be of doing things in vain since machine translation became a universal application, which can surpass human translators with its easiness and correctness. I completely disagree with this type of attitude as language learning not only helps to make efficient communication with its quickness but also a path to the understanding of different cultures which results in a high-level approach to sincerity.
To commence with, while machine translation is capable to accomplish this type of job very well with its quick response, it is way more effective to express ourselves without relying on computer programs. For example, when people in a foreign hospital as there is a language barrier for the diagnosis. It would be very much low-efficiency by utilizing machine translator to exchange information rather than direct communication in a same lanauge channel, therefore, it is crucial for us to be able to read one another in a same language straightly.
Furthermore, knowing certain languages can also benefit and bring better relationships among people. As Nelson Mandela once said: “If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his own language, that goes to his heart.” For instance, when people come from different countries are discussing business, exchanging opinions in the same tongue would be a great deal, which allows them to comprehend in a decent way, therefore, better cooperation.
To conclude, even though computer applications and machine algorithms bring us convenience in translation, which allow people to better work and study, to be able to use certain languages and communicate with one another directly is still a strongly recommended skill everyone should try to grasp.
