When Sarah Pearsall moved to Asheville, North Carolina, from Florida in 2009, she viewed it as a fresh start for her family to lead a healthier lifestyle. Moving to one of the healthiest and greenest U.S. cities meant incorporating more organic foods and toxin-free products into their household.

She bought a bottle of all-natural lager and found that beer still had beautifying effects. She then thought: What if we take this crafted beer and make salon-level shampoo out of it?

They rented hourly lab space at a local college to combine the ales with shampoo ingredients, but each formula was a letdown. Two years and 50 iterations later, the couple and their chemist finally crafted a vegan, salon-level beer shampoo mixed with natural scents like vanilla（香草）, peppermint（胡椒薄荷） and citrus. They packaged the formula in a gift basket and hand-delivered it to the regional buyer at Earth Fare, an all-natural grocery chain based in Asheville.

In 2015, Brad read about Walmart's Made In America initiative. "Everything we have is made in the USA, from the beer to the bottles," said Sarah. The company presented Broo's product and company story at the open call for pitches. The following day, Walmart tweeted about Broo as their newest haircare product.

The co-founders say last year was a "cold break" for the family business, landing in 1,000 Walmarts and 6,500 CVS locations, 1,200 Albertsons/Safeway stores, as well as Target.com.
