It was written by Zhang Liang of the Han Dynasty. When taking refuge at Xia Pi after his assassination efforts failed, he met Huang Shigong on a bridge and retrieved Huang’s shoes that are purposefully thrown under the bridge. Satisfied with Zhang’s response, Huang later bestowed him a book called Six Secret Teachings, whose guidance enabled him to assist Liu Bang in gaining the mandate of Heaven to become the founding emperor of the Han Dynasty. Their encounter is not just by accident. Zhang Liang has revised the piece ten times. Despite of its shortness, it creates a sense of serenity so it can serve as a start for new learners.
汉张良所作也。幼时于下邳圯上,进黄石公之履,授以太公兵法,佐沛公而受天命。古之际会,非偁然也。韩子十耕原稿,虽小曲而意恬静,亦可为初学入门之法也。
