Everyday we place ourselves in a situation to make a decision, no matter big or small, and how do you make you mind? Oftentimes we may get a suggestion that follow your gut, hmmm.. follow your guts sounds good, but the truth is often our guts can't make up their minds at all, then if we can't trust our minds, what can we trust?
We all have our flaws when we make decision, and by building a good decision-making process can largely ensure these flaws don't happen, this is also resonate in 'Principle'. And why a process? Because understanding our shortcomings is not enough to fix them. Similarly, it's hard to correct a bias in our mental process just by being aware of it. To get things done, it's very important to ensure the three elements ready: awareness, willingness and ability.
There're four villains of decision making, which appears through the whole process:
1. You encounter a choice, but narrow framing makes you miss options
2. You analyze your opinions, but the confirmation bias leads you to gather self-serving information.
3. You make a choice, but short-term emotion will often tempt you to make the wrong one.
4. Then you live with it, but you'll often be overconfident about how the future will unfold.
