    1.grimy 

    满是污垢的;肮脏的

    something that is grimy is very dirty

    We're not always this wet and grimy.

    我们不总这样湿漉漉,脏兮兮的。

    2.ulterior

    隐藏的;不可告人的

    kept hidden deliberately

    I had an ulterior motive for inviting you here tonight.

    我今晚请你来其实是别有用心的。

    3.stringent

    严格的,紧缩的,变紧的

    strident anti-noise regulations 严格的防噪音条例

    4.begrimed

    肮脏的

    dirty, soiled,grimy

    His hands were begrimed with oil and dirt.

    他的手很脏,沾满了油和污物。

    5.impoverished

    贫困的;贫瘠的;次贫的

    very poor

    impoverished peasants 贫困的农民

    At present, there are less than 560,000 impoverished people in Inner Mongolia.

    现在,内蒙古有不到56万贫困人口。

    6.inundate

    淹没,被...淹没,使应接不暇

    We have been inundated with offers of help.

    主动援助多得使我们应接不暇。

    to give sb a huge amount of things that must be dealt with

    涉及到你的请求让我们应接不暇。

    淹没,泛滥

    to cover an area of land with water

    But the sea level rose, the plain was inundated and the hill became an island.

    但是海平面上升了,平原被淹没,山变成了岛屿。

    7.brazen

    恬不知耻的,肆无忌惮地

    behaving in a very open and shocking way without shame or embarrassment

    She's the most brazen liar that ever existed, you know.

    你知道吗,她是世上最厚颜无耻的骗子。

    Our children are so brazen, they are showing up to school wasted.

    我们的学生真是太无耻了,他们堂而皇之在校内喝醉。

    brazen sth out

    厚着脸皮做某事:to behave confidently as if you are not ashamed or embarrassed

    They keep their heads. They brazen things out.

    他们不慌不忙,厚颜无耻地装作若无其事。

    8.tortoise

    陆龟

    Some tortoises live for nearly 200 years.

    I guess they never read The Tortoise and the Hare!

    9.commiserate

    怜悯,同情

    if you commiserate with sb, you show them pity or sympathy when sth unpleasant has happened to them

    commiserate with sb

    commiserate about/over sth

    I only went down there to commiserate, and he was very dismissive.

    我只是去那里安慰他的,可他很不领情。

    We commiserate over similarities in our personal lives.

    我们由于私生活中的相似经历而同病相怜。

    10.incinerate

    把...烧成灰烬,烧毁,焚化,焚毁

    :to burn sth completely

    high-temperature incineration plants

    高温焚化厂

    Once it is launched, it will simply burn everything, so it will incinerate the entire universe.

    一旦开启,就会瞬间将一切燃烧殆尽,所以它将会焚毁整个宇宙。
